Time to think

Or perhaps rethink. And yes, it is totally unfair to expect the Icelanders to assume the debt of private banks. Likewise it is rather unfair for the US tax payer to be bailing out US banks.

Iceland at the cross roads

So Iceland is to offered the option of being fast tracked into the EU. Perhaps the EU is the only future open to Iceland, but as someone who grew up in Europe to then move to Canada, with a reasonable knowledge of both, this latest news saddens me. Ultimately it must be Icelanders who must decide their own future. My hope however remains that Iceland will be invited to join Canada as an alternative to joining the EU, and give serious consideration to such an offer, because I think it would be very short sighted of Canada to not offer Iceland choice in this matter. I prefer futures in which it is said that Iceland had many suitors, and chose from these many suitors the one that Iceland deemed best, to a future in which it is said that because Iceland had only one suitor, Iceland had no choice but to join the EU.

Congratulations are in order

I extend congratulations and best wishes to your new leader. It seems that Iceland yet once more is leading by example.
